Saul Williams – „Horn of the Clock-Bike“ // Audio

Saul Williams

Parallel zur Veröffentlichung seines neuen Gedichtbandes US (a.), eine kritische Reflektion über das kontemporäre Amerika, lässt Multi-Talent Saul Williams auch musikalisch wieder von sich hören. „Horn of the Clock-Bike“, die jüngste Single aus dem erst 2016 erscheinenden „Martyr.Loser.King“, fällt dabei ähnlich verkopft aus wie die Gedichte des „Poet laureate of hip-hop“ (so CNN).  Auf einem eindringlichen Piano-Arpeggio gibt Saul Williams kryptische Zeilen wie folgende zum Besten: “Smile of the victor/Child of the prisoners/Statues of martyrs/Hackers as artists“. Das genaue Verständnis dessen obliegt wohl dem Interpretationsvermögen des einzelnen Hörers. Auf jeden Fall steigert „Horn of the Clock-Bike“ die Spannung auf „Martyr.Loser.King“.

LYRICS:
Red stain on the concrete.
Disdain for the bare feet.
Work. Work my kitango.
No perk for the bongo.

Who presence is charity? Who? Who?
Who fresh from disparity?
Who arms wide open? Who? Who?
Who strange fruit smokin?

Paint on a canvas. Carved from a pancreas.
Blue for the water. Red for the daughter.
Money green where the land was.
First hand. Second. Second-hand laws.

Horn of the clock-bike. Thorn of the crown spike.
Smile of the victor. Child of the prisoner.
Statues of martyrs. Hackers as artists.

Shout out to Atlantis!
First-hand. Second. Second-hand us.
Thorn of the crown spike. Horn of the clock-bike.
