Der chilenische Electro-Musiker Nicolas Jaar, Sohn des bekannten bildenden Künstlers Alfredo Jaar („The Rwanda Project“), veröffentlicht mit „Pomegranates“ ein neues Album – und bietet dieses zum „Free Download“ an. Die Vorgeschichte zum Album liest sich dabei durchaus interessant: Vor Monaten sieht Nicolas Jaar Sergej Parajanovs Sowjet-Klassiker „The Color Of Pomegranates“. Fasziniert von diesem Film, beginnt Jaar, seine Musik unter den kraftvollen Bildern Parajanovs zu legen – um das Endprodukt schließlich auf YouTube hochzuladen. Nur ist das mit dem Copyright auf YouTube eben eine Sache, die selbst einen Nicolas Jaar vor Problemen stellt. Der machte dann das Beste daraus: „I wanted to do some screenings but the guy who owns the rights to the film only wants the original version of the movie out there. I can’t blame him, I’m sure Paradjanov wouldn’t want some kid in NY pissing all over his masterpiece and calling it a soundtrack! I’ve listened to it a couple of times without watching the movie and I think it stands on its own. Or at least I hope it can!“ Ja, der Soundtrack funktioniert auch ohne Film wunderbar. Sehr experimentell, verschroben und rough – aber absolut hörenswert!
